A Woman's Place is in the Struggle: Resisting Fascist Rule in the Philippines from Gabriela Silang to BaiBiyaon

Anakbayan Chicago

Since before the Philippine Revolution of 1896, Filipinas have been at the forefront of resistance to fascist and exploitative rule. These revolutionaries understood then that their liberation as women was connected to the liberation of the Filipino people as a whole from imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism. Today, the worsening crisis in the Philippines has led to increasing displacement from ancestral lands and forced migration from the country. State violence and political repression have escalated as three anti-people wars rage on and Filipinas - upholding their legacy of resistance - continue to led the current fight against tyranny. Join this workshop to discuss the history of Filipina resistance and how that legacy is upheld today!
